Alice in Wonderland

While riding out my long awaited pregnancy, I day dreamed of my little girl. I wondered what she would look like and all of that wonderful stuff. As a photographer, I also daydreamed about the photos I would take of her. I scrolled through Pinterest for baby photo inspiration (yes, I do that too!).  I had seen a couple photographers do beautiful “Fairy Tale” themed photos of infants. I immediately decided that I wanted to take series photos of my own daughter, but time and energy were not on my side. Before I knew it, she was no longer a newborn.

Now that she’s older, we’ve started reading her the classics. At this time, she may not be old enough to understand them, but I’ve decided to embark on a photo journalistic journey with her. My hope is to recreate these fairytales with her as the star. She may not fit the typical billet for most of the characters, but I want her to understand that she can be anything that she sets her heart to be. Reading and Make believe are excellent outlets for expanding growing minds & fostering self esteem.

My first attempt was the tale Little Red Riding Hood. I am constantly evolving as a photographer and bettering myself with each session, so looking back on it I can already see where I went wrong and what I could have done to better the session… I already want to “redo” it. Anyway, one day she’ll be able to look back on these and remember how it felt to be the character in the story or being snuggled up with me or her daddy while reading these classic tales.

Here is our adventure into Wonderland.

San Diego has some of the most amazing trees. They were the inspiration behind this session.

I have to give a huge shout out to my friend over at Asa’s Cakes for making the amazing cookies for our Mad Tea Party. The attention to detail was breathtaking.

The flowers were left over from our Marie Antoinette styled shoot a few days prior, but they were still fresh and absolutely perfect for this color pallete. Huge thanks to Chloe from Haystack Florals! You’re awesome!

Props were provided by yours truly and were either everyday household items or thrifted from local secondhand shops. See those cute teacups and teapot? Goodwill score!

The Mad Hatter’s Hat was handmade and a definite favorite for our little one.
